The origins of cup stacking date back to the 1980’s when Wayne Godinet came up with the idea in a Boys club in Oceanside, California and named it “CUPSTACK”. Godinet’s aim was to create a competitive environment, where individuals of all sporting abilities could race head to head against one another and have a great time. Godinet developed Cupstack into a fully-fledged sport with the very first Inter-School tournament held in 1986 and the very first Cupstack World Championships being held in 1994.
If you haven’t seen it before it involves up-stacking and down-stacking twelve cups in predetermined sequences at incredible speed. Competitors compete against the clock to beat their times but it’s the Head to Head competition that is the most exciting element of this quirky sport. Cup Stacking continues to grow through many schools P.E and positive education programs throughout Australia.
